Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Learning
At our school, every learner’s potential is our priority, and our staff have embraced HPGE through a shared lens for recognising potential in students with complex needs. We offer a range of HPGE opportunities:
In our classroom
- Differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity, and encourage higher-order thinking skills, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and engaged in their learning journey.
- Ongoing formative assessment practices that closely monitor student growth and inform instructional adjustments, allowing for personalised learning experiences that meet individual needs.
- Targeted learning goals focused on developing coordination, agility, and control, supporting the holistic physical and cognitive development of students.
- Strengths-based feedback and goal setting that recognise students’ unique talents and foster a growth mindset.
- Opportunities for leadership within the classroom, enabling students to build confidence, develop communication skills, and contribute positively to the learning community.
- Safe and supportive learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance, helping students to overcome challenges and build resilience.
Across our school
- Our school provides opportunities for student voice and student advocacy, including the student representative council.
- We use technology to provide different ways of learning that help students develop their talent, as a part of supporting their overall learning needs.
- We ensure our teachers have time to engage in professional learning to build their experience and ensure they can assess and recognise potential in the classroom and school setting.
- Our school has active links with other nearby schools and their local communities. Students may have access to HPGE classes in collaboration with mainstream schools and are supported to participate in community activities and training.
- Our school's Garden Cafe program provides enriching opportunities that challenge and engage students through practical, real-world experiences.
- Our Mini-Woolies program supports the development of workforce skills by offering students practical, hands-on experience in retail operations, fostering responsibility, teamwork, and customer service abilities.
Across NSW
- Our school participates in opportunities including the Premier’s reading challenge.
- The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
- The Sports Unit offers a diverse range of learning opportunities across the domains of potential. Our students participate in a range of offerings provided by the Sports Unit including Boccia, Multi-Sport days and Tenpin Bowling.
